Marcie is, as was pointed out during the discussion, a woman who carries herself with a great deal of poise and grace. Her sense of humor and willingness to admit even her own shortcomings will have you nodding along in agreement and realizing that we’re all just humans trying to do the best we can.
In conversations that came up after this event, an important point was made: It’s not enough to just not be racist. We have to, as good allies and ambassadors, be actively anti-racist. Marcie shared a wonderful pearl from her mother, toward the end of the evening:
Amen, Marcie’s mom!
We meet the first Monday of every month (when applicable) at Nashville Social Club in Carson City, usually in the sun room (sometimes in The Swan Music Hall), so there is music in the background. Also, we meet around a table and share food while we hold our conversations, so you may hear sounds of plates, glasses, or cutlery in the background. I’ve done my best to remove them, but hopefully the subject matter will have you so riveted, you’ll soon no longer notice all that other stuff.
Thank you for taking the time to listen, and perhaps learn how to be a better ally to the Black community. If you’re local, please feel free to join us. There is no cost, and no age restriction.
