Conversation with Claudia Cardoza – on immigrating to the U.S.

Claudia Cardoza had us riveted as she talked about her family coming to America from Nicaragua when she was a child, and I think there are many of us hoping she will write a book about her life experiences. The underlying message of this entire conversation was a word she used so often: Gratitude. It’s amazing how grateful she and her family are to be here, to help others be here, and to make she and her family are making the world a better place. I have adored Claudia for years, and it was both heartbreaking and inspirational to hear what her family has gone through (and continues to go through).

Some of the conversation centered around challenges still being faced in Nicaragua, with tendrils that reach her here in Nevada. For the safety of her and her family, we have removed part of the conversation, but don’t worry, there is so much amazing stuff here, you won’t even know you’ve missed it.

We try to meet the first Sunday of every month (doesn’t always work out, so please check our schedule here often) at Nashville Social Club in Carson City, usually in the sun room (sometimes in The Swan Music Hall), so there is music in the background. Also, we meet around a table and share food while we hold our conversations, so you may hear sounds of plates, glasses, or cutlery in the background. I’ve done my best to remove them, but hopefully the subject matter will have you so riveted, you’ll soon no longer notice all that other stuff.

Thank you for taking the time to listen, and perhaps learn how to be a better ally to the immigrant community. If you’re local, please feel free to join us. There is no cost, and no age restriction.
